T-Minus Two Weeks: Praxis Summer Road Show!

posted in: Summer Road Show | 0

As I’ve already announced on Praxis last week and to much of my personal network, I am about to embark on a big Truth Scout/Praxis journey and I need your help.

Since 2012, I have been producing a weekly radio show called Praxis on KYRS FM. I began after spending years immersed in activism organizing young people in Spokane in a range of contexts from traditional non-profit structures to unstructured and DIY community improvement. I’d benefited from seeing the organizing world from diverse vantage points: from non-profit board rooms, from Occupy camps up and down the west coast, from the dining room table of my punk house where we assembled zines and planned shows, and from online forums and comment threads where ideological battles blaze and opinions gel. The differences between these world views, tactics, and personalities were—and still are—fascinating to me. What aspects work within each approach? Which are more fun and natural for me personally? How will we, the people seeking a better world, eventually win? How is it that we all believe we are the people seeking a better world when many of us are opposed to one another directly? If we (and I do) believe that another world is possible, then by what means? The small questions, of course.

This summer, I am hitting the road to capture a snapshot of a strange and interesting time of change and upheaval. To lift up good examples of different ways to build a future and bring some lessons and connections back to my home. How are we (or aren’t we) adapting to climate change? How are communities building trust and resiliency in an age of fear and uncertainty? Is it time for a revolution? And if it is, what does that look like? I hope to get a better idea about these questions on the road this summer. And I hope you will follow along and participate in this project with me. Follow the blog to see where I’m at and what answers emerge.

So how can you help? I am looking for contacts along the way: interesting activists and organizers, academics, rebels, and kind people with couches alike. The maps below show the basic trajectory of the journey and you can contact me with specific suggestions and questions. I have been saving diligently for this trip but know that there are unknown expenses that will crop up. If you want to support this trip and broaden my flexibility to extend or change plans along the way, you can support Praxis Summer Road Show via Paypal or cash. Please contact me for details.
